Understanding the Economy

The economy is complex, so to understand it we have to simplify it. We do this by creating indicators, such as GDP, that allow us to view the economy at a glance.

The Problem with Traditional Indicators

  1. They update infrequently
  2. Can't inspect the underlying data or easily replicate
  3. Expensive to create and maintain

It would be nice to have indicators that update instantaneously with transparent underlying data that can be created in minutes.

My Approach

I've chosen the SEC archive to start with. This is because it updates frequently, contains a rich variety of economic data, and is manageable with my limited resources. Thank you to On Deck Founders for the cloud credits.
