Methodology
This analysis tracks corporate naming patterns related to the dot-com bubble by analyzing company filing data from the SEC.
Key methodology details:
- Data is sourced from the SEC's company filing metadata
- Companies with "COM" in their names must have "COM" as a standalone word (e.g., "PETS.COM" or "PETS COM", but not "PETSCOM")
- Daily counts track companies that had "COM" in their name on each specific date
- The day a company changes its name is excluded from the count
- All data is updated daily through an automated process
