Methodology

This analysis tracks corporate naming patterns related to the artificial intelligence boom by analyzing company filing data from the SEC.

Key methodology details:

  • Data is sourced from the SEC's company filing metadata
  • Companies with AI terms must have any of the following as standalone words in their names:
    • AI, A.I., or ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
    • GPT (referring to generative pre-trained transformers)
    • LLM (large language model)
    • ML or MACHINE LEARNING
    • NLP (natural language processing)
    • NEURAL (referring to neural networks)
    • DEEP LEARNING
    • TENSOR (referring to TensorFlow-related technologies)
    • TRANSFORMER (AI architecture)
    • AGI (artificial general intelligence)
    • COGNITIVE
    • INTELLIGENCE (when not part of "ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE")
  • The detection is case-insensitive (e.g., "Ai" and "AI" are both counted)
  • Daily counts track companies that had any of these terms in their name on each specific date
  • The day a company changes its name is excluded from the count
  • All data is updated daily through an automated process
