Methodology
This analysis tracks corporate naming patterns related to the artificial intelligence boom by analyzing company filing data from the SEC.
Key methodology details:
- Data is sourced from the SEC's company filing metadata
- Companies with AI terms must have any of the following as standalone words in their names:
- AI, A.I., or ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE
- GPT (referring to generative pre-trained transformers)
- LLM (large language model)
- ML or MACHINE LEARNING
- NLP (natural language processing)
- NEURAL (referring to neural networks)
- DEEP LEARNING
- TENSOR (referring to TensorFlow-related technologies)
- TRANSFORMER (AI architecture)
- AGI (artificial general intelligence)
- COGNITIVE
- INTELLIGENCE (when not part of "ARTIFICIAL INTELLIGENCE")
- The detection is case-insensitive (e.g., "Ai" and "AI" are both counted)
- Daily counts track companies that had any of these terms in their name on each specific date
- The day a company changes its name is excluded from the count
- All data is updated daily through an automated process
